HealdsburgHealdsburg's first Michelin two star restaurant which gives the French Laundry a run for its money and the reservations are much easier to come by. Fabulous food, a wine list to die for, and a bar that gives any New York or London bar something to aspire to. If you are celebrating something very special, this is the very special place to go.
Ralph's Bistro Also on the Plaza in downtown Healdsburg, Ralph's Bistro serves wonderful Californian style food. My husband raves about the great steaks, fabulous Caesar salads, and oven-hot mini foccacia bread. Located at 109 Plaza Street, Healdsburg ph: 707.433.1380 (12 miles) Ravenous Ravenous is located in two places. Next to the Raven movie theater on 117 North Street for lunch and now in the evenings on 420 Center Street two blocks north of the Plaza phone (707) 431-1770 (North Street) (707)431-1302 (Center Street) They are only open from Wednesday til Sunday and don't take credit cards yet fantastic. That's the bad news. The rest is good news as they make some very interesting food. The lunch menu ranged from $8 to $14 and included rigatoni with pancetta, squash, mushrooms, and tomatoes, tofu brochettes, a portobello sandwich, and more. There were five desserts in the $4 to $6 range. The wine list had about 20 reds and 20 whites, most in the $20 to $40 range and a dozen wines available by the glass at $5 to $8. Jimtown StoreThis is the one stop for the quintessential picnic. If your name is Jim, be sure to sign one of the stuffed Dachsunds and pick up one of Carrie Brown's killer espresso brownies to accompany your sandwiches. A must go-to for your visit to Alexander Valley! 6706 Hwy. 128, Healdsburg, ph. (707)433-1212 (6 miles)
Geyserville
WineriesHealdsburgAlexander Valley Cottage's owners own wine. Edith Wilson and Tony Fleming's inaugral vintages were recently launched and are receiving highest accolades for the fabulous 2002 Cabernet Sauvignon, 2002 Syrah and 2003 Sauvignon Blanc. Speak to them about private tastings as this is a wine to watch. The Wetzel Family continues the spirit of Cyrus Alexander who discovered Alexander Valley in the 19th Century. Their beautiful estate is not only the homestead of Cyrus Alexander but also knock-your-sock's off wines including Sin Zin (get an etched bottle for memory sake) and their finely crafted Cyrus. One of our favorite wines is Stonestreet which crafts many of its wines from vineyards surrounding Alexander Valley Cottage. Stonestreet continues the art of finely crafted wines. Although the winery is not open to the public for tasting, visit the Artesan Cellars on the Plaza in Healdsburg for tasting.GeyservilleNow, Robert Young is striking out on their own! After years of providing fabulous grapes to Chateau St. Jean, Robert Young Wines is making their own. Their Scion is fabulous and by pre-arrangement, visit their new cave and understand why. | |
